Deal activity by volume related to ESG increased by 181% year-on-year in 2023 in the medical device industry

A​​​​​​​nalysis of the key themes driving deal activity reveals that ESG accounted for 160 medical device deals between 2019 and 2023, worth a total value of $8,148m, according to GlobalData’s Deals database covering mergers and acquisitions, private equity, venture financing, equity offerings and partnerships.  

The $538m equity offering by Winner Medical Group was the largest disclosed deal in 2023, while the $75m venture financing secured by RapidSOS from Playground Global and consortium partners was the largest disclosed deal in 2022.   

In volume terms, ESG related deal activity increased by 181% year-on-year in 2023 and by 133% year-on-year in 2022.

Partnership accounted for the highest number of deals in the last five years, with 49 deals, followed by Venture financing (39 deals) and Acquisition (25 deals).
